Great Ocean Road Clean Up Day 2024
We invite you to join us at Torquay Common (the gateway to the Great Ocean Road) at midday on Tuesday 12th March for a few hours of fun and action picking up rubbish. Head down on your lunch break and enjoy the stunning views of Bass Strait and Spring Creek, meet like-minded friends, and help make a positive impact on the environment!
We will provide you with all the necessary equipment and guidance to collect and dispose of the rubbish safely and responsibly. We will also have some games, prizes and refreshments to reward your efforts.
About the Great Ocean Road Clean Up Day
The Great Ocean Road is one of the most scenic and popular destinations in Australia, attracting millions of tourists every year. However, tourism also brings environmental challenges, such as littering, pollution and habitat degradation. That's why we are launching a fun lunchtime clean-up initiative to help preserve the natural beauty and biodiversity of our coastal region.
We have teamed up with the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority to initiate an inaugural Great Ocean Road Clean Up Day event that will get the community involved for a few hours of fun and action picking up rubbish.
Over the summer of 2024 we have seen the number of visitors skyrocket back to pre-Covid levels - and with them comes more rubbish and damage to our precious ecosystem along the Great Ocean Road. Litter on our lands and in waterways is a major environmental problem. It not only affects our health, but also severely impacts our local wildlife. Through the Great Ocean Road Clean Up Day, we hope to help alleviate this problem.
